Back in 2010 Alan Brattesani and I dragged two field-find Opels GTs home from the hills above Oroville, CA, stuffed both of them in my carport, and got to work. Nine weeks later we had a race car, and one hot August weekend we took it to a 24 Hours of Lemons race at Thunderhill and we raced it. Then we raced it again, and again, and we even started winning. Then we started breaking, and, well, that's racing.

Along the way I kept notes, some of which were published as articles in the Opel Motorsport Club's newsletter, and others were circulated among the team so that we'd all be on the same page regarding the outcome of a race and what it would take to get the car to the next race. Eventually, I had enough material for a book. More than enough, actually, which is why the whole project got split into two volumes.

Volume 1 covers 2010 starting when we bought the car through to the end of 2014, spanning five years of racing, plus two trips to the Bonneville Salt Flats. Volume 2 covers 2015 to the present. Together they tell the story of a group of friends doing something far from sensible and fiscally responsible, but very much life-enriching.

Volume 1 is available now, and volume 2 should be available by Christmas, in case you were wondering what you were going to put under the tree this year.
